Tutorial with Ben Green — Research Brief — OUGD603

Before starting the brief, we had a chat with Ben on the subject to what area's we could potentially go down in terms of possible research:





 

• Ruin Porn
• Raw Concrete — Barnabas Calder (Book)
• Represent the typeface in terms of how it looks within an image, like Instagram
• Identify when it became popular to post pictures of this nature
• Don't create a direct interpretation of what the buildings look like in a typographic form
• Create alternate ligatures to represent different aspects of the ideology
• Relationship of Emoji's within image captions to something like Blissymbolics, possibly create own language to symbolise different aspects of brutalist architecture
• Relate it to the political meaning (Socialist/Communist)
• Helvetica Movie — How the design of the typeface was more about the negative space as it was the actual typeface
• Set of rules like geometry club, Instagram trend
• Look at technical drawings of architects of this era and analyse the the they used on them

Overall this chat really cleared up concerns on the subject and give us many possible routes to go down.
