Barnabas Calder 'Raw Concrete' — Research Brief — OUGD603

Calder is a historian of architecture, specialising in British architecture since 1945.

He is currently a lecturer at University of Liverpool and could be a great contact to gather primary research, and also see what an experienced practitioner has to say about the recent surge in popularity of posting images onto social media of this nature.

Barnabas has also published a book which is of great interest with our chosen subject, titled Raw Concrete.

There is a chapter within the book that talks about 'The seduction of concrete', and briefly outlines Barnabas' obsession with concrete and how it came about.

This case could assist with how someone who is a qualified architectural historian feels about how people outside of the architectural industry are beginning to become more appreciative rather than critical about modernist/brutalist buildings.
